We purchased a Zero water filter system 1 week ago. It measured zero with the TDS tester new, 1 week later it now measures 648 and has a very sour taste and smell.

That's pretty scary considering out of the tap it measures 391.

I have used Brita for the past couple of years and have never experienced anything like this, even if I was overdue for a filter change. Zero water has invested money in advertisement and should have used it for research and development.

This is a poor product and and should be taken off the shelves.

Monetary Loss: $34.

The fishy smell is trimethylamine, a byproduct of the ion exchange resin, which also is an https://dowac.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4694/~/dow-ion-exchange-resins---anion-resins---odor The device measuring the water for ZeroWater measures in "ppm" or "Parts Per Million." https://www.zerowater.com/resources/tds-meter-instructions.pdf Our noses can detect trimethylamine between 0.3 and 0.8 parts per billion, which is 0.0008 ppm, so we can smell it LONG before the device detects it. https://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/search/a?dbs+hsdb:@term+@DOCNO+808 That smell just means it's time to change your filter.

Zero Water is a filter that uses Ion Exchange to remove contaminants from the water. Brita does not. This is why ZW costs more than Brita. When an ion exchange filter is over-spent, the TDS meters will climb higher than the source water for a bit.

This is normal, but also a sign you should have swapped the filter a LONG time ago. Your TDS for your source water is fairly high.

I would not recommend any Ion Exchange filters for your water. If you need high purity, you're better off with a reverse osmosis or distiller unit to remove the majority of impurities before removing the remainder with a ZW pitcher.

I've just bought zero water pitcher (Wallmart) filtration system. It has worked for four gallons with exceptional water.

NOW, as of 3 days later, the water is now like soured lemon and undrinkable. I poured it out and began another fresh container and it's exactly the same.

VERY, disappointed in this product which I waited to find for a long time in the store. 783 initial reading, with filtration on first few gallons 204 now 759.

I love ZeroWater. I have been using for half a year and have told many people and after the sample my water they all go out and buy their own.

I don't have scientific proof but Zerowater has greatly helped my gout. I use to have awful gout but since I started drinking Zerowater I have had not one attack, and I eat whatever I want.

Just wanted to say I had the exact same issue. The pitcher and filtration system worked great the first week.

Less than 10 refills total my TDS reading shows 659 (regular tap water is at 419). Maybe my water is too harsh for the filtration system to handle.

But the zero water now reads worse than the tap water and tastes sour. I'll be calling zero water tomorrow to find out more.
