A couple of months ago, we decided to start using a water filter instead of buying distilled water. Because of his previous experience, we went with a Zerowater pitcher.

I followed the directions in setting it up and using it. It was great at first. But within a few weeks, the water started having a lemon flavor to it. I thought something might have contaminated the reservoir.

So I cleaned the entire pitcher with warm soapy water. Even after filtering quite a bit of water and flushing it out, the water still had a lemony smell and almost started to smell of fish. So, we got a brand new filter and the same thing happened. Our tap water has a PPM of ~275.

But after two weeks of filtering half a gallon of water a day through the pitcher, the filtered water has a reading of ~480 PPM. Even after heavy use, the water shouldn't have MORE PPMs than regular tap water. I firmly believe that ZW has engineered their filters to add something to the water after a time in order to get people to buy a new filter sooner.

Of course, we don't have the fortune to investigate for a possible class action lawsuit. We'll just avoid ZW from now on and encourage others to do the same.

Reason of review: Bad quality.

Monetary Loss: $60.

Preferred solution: For the company to fix their filters..

Zerowater Cons: Quality of product, Tastes like garbage.

Location: Denver, Colorado

I also believe Zero has some kind of engineered element to make the water taste weird after only a short time, especially compared to a Brita filter which will last much longer. I've even tried filtering water through a Brita into the Zero to see if that would help but it didn't seem to make any difference.

The Zero was is good with a new filter but the filter needs to be changed too often I think. It could be a scam.

Typical dumb, uninformed American consumer. "I don't understand what happened, so I'm going to assume the manufacture is conspiring against me and I'm going to sue them!"

The filter is an ion-exchange system, with a resin that traps dissolved solids. When it reaches saturation, the stored solids from previous filtrations can leak back out into the water, which would result in a bad taste in the water.

When you have a filter so powerful to pull out all the particles of *** fecal matter, plus chemicals it's going to have to be changed. If your tap water is bad the filter is going to need to be changed more often.

It should just show you how much *** you've been drinking in your water. Zerowater, although not certified as a removal of Fluoride does eliminate a good portion from the water. The flavor of the water will taste sour after it hits the 006 point because your filter is saturated with the filth that it has extracted and can no longer filter properly. It's not some conspiracy to sell more filters, it's just working hard to pull all the *** out of your water.

Just change the dang filter! We change ours just about once a month.

Your lucky if you only have to change your water filter once a month. I on the other-hand has to change the water filter at least once a week if I'm lucky, because where I live at has 609 mm/p in the water.

In order to slightly extend my Zero Water filter if I chose this method, I would pre-filter the water with another water filter brand, then filter that filtered water into the Zero Water filter.

I almost better off just electrolysis the water with solar energy into Hydrogen and Oxygen, then turn around and recombined those two element back into pure, distilled water without any junk in it. At the same time, I could utilize that combining energy to propel something like a vehicle while expelling pure water from its exhaust system.

The filters use ion exchange resin to remove the majority of tds like a water softener or nitrate unit does over time the resin essentially fills up and can somtime even release depending on the what the specific mineral content of your water is hence the higher tds after the filter is essentialy expired.

I don't believe this for a minute. I filter about 1 - 1.5 gallon per day for about 30 days before the ppm even goes above 2.

I will admit the tap water here in Chicago is very clean (120-130 ppm), but never has there been any odor or funny taste.

I think this guys fridge is not cold enough and/or he is having a microbial (fungal or bacterial) issue. Try cleaning the inside of your fridge with vineger.
